So ! How does this work ?
|
Ah ! Now I see.

An historic meeting to discuss
the solar replacement of Big Ben perhaps?
We have a sundial.
Now if only we could find some sun.
A closer look at the
Wild Boar Sundial

Ferryhill is a small town some six miles south east of Durham city. The town council
commissioned a new sundial as part of their Millennium celebrations and the final design by
Lindisfarne Sundials incorporated ideas from a group of four schoolboys in the town. The wild
boar association arises from the legend that in 1200 A.D. Roger de Ferie slew the Boar of
Brancepeth nearby at the same time giving the town its name. The dial plate is photo-etched
from 3/16" thick brass and the central brass 'gnomon', which projects six inches down into
the pedestal as an anti-vandal measure, was milled, sawn and filed by hand from a 3/4" x 5"
slab.
