My Sundial Testbed The top surface is a diamond-ground slab with the surface set dead level.  The incised 'meridian line' is a small section of the imaginary line running from the north to the south pole.  This allows me to try out ideas with no doubts about their true orientation.  In this instance I was checking the results of a computed spreadsheet.
