It is a sad fact that much of what I do involves anti-vandal features or repairs to broken dials.  The extra metalwork under this plate replaced a gnomon which had just been ripped out.

This broken gnomon stump had been previously repaired with dovetailed jointing I think.  As it cannot be removed from the stone an in-situ silver soldered joint will repair it.
